With Youth Practitioners

We believe that strengthening the skills of adults who support young people is key to offering them better guidance and support.

For nearly 40 years, Coram Leap has delivered innovative training to professionals across sectors, including education, criminal justice, the voluntary sector, and local government.

Below, you can explore an overview of our specialist training areas. We offer everything from introductory workshops to bespoke, in-depth programmes tailored to your needs and budget.

A one-off session with Coram Leap Confronting Conflict is just the beginning. For lasting impact, we offer ongoing support to help fully embed and reinforce learning over time. Our sessions can be delivered face-to-face and or supplemented with flexible digital options. We provide group training, one-on-one support, can train your team to deliver our workshops themselves through a ‘train the trainer’ model.

At the heart of all our training is a restorative and reflective approach – working with people, not to them. We don’t come with all the answers; instead, we create a safe, facilitated space where you and your team can ask the questions that matter most.

OUR PROGRAMMES

RISE UP

Rise Up is an innovative leadership programme for adult youth practitioners working with London-based young people affected by violence. Funded by the London Violence Reduction Unit, it equips practitioners with the skills, networks and confidence to strengthen their practice.

Over the past three years, Rise Up has supported hundreds of practitioners, whose learning continues to positively impact young people across London.

FOSTERING CONNECTIONS

Fostering Connections is a Youth Endowment Fund–supported programme that trains and supports social work teams and foster carers to understand and apply trauma-informed practice.

Over five months, supervising social workers and social workers receive joint training and ongoing access to a peer support network, strengthening collaboration, shared understanding of trauma, and consistent, trauma-informed approaches for young people in foster care.

WORKING WITH CONFLICT DE-ESCALATION

Coram Leap supports youth practitioners to build the skills and confidence to manage personal and interpersonal conflict and verbally de-escalate challenging situations. Our training focuses on self-awareness, understanding habitual behaviours, setting boundaries, and applying these skills directly in youth work practice.

CO-PRODUCTION

Co-production is a powerful approach to creating meaningful change in how organisations work with young people. This training builds the skills to value and champion lived experience and youth voice in the planning, design and delivery of services.

INTRODUCTION TO TRAUMA

Practitioners in the youth and youth justice sectors work with the impacts of trauma every day. This three-session training explores what trauma is, how it affects behaviour, and how it may show up in the young people you support. It also supports practitioners to recognise trauma responses in themselves and reflect on what this means for individual and organisational practice.

TRAINING FOR PRISONS

In the high-stress prison environment, effective conflict management is essential. Coram Leap trains prison staff and prisoners to manage, de-escalate and communicate in conflict. Through group and one-to-one training, we build empathy, self-awareness and stronger relationships, with a particular focus on bringing prisoners and prison officers together to explore conflict collaboratively.

EXPLORING RACE AND RACISM IN YOUTH WORK

In summer 2020, Coram Leap launched Courageous Conversations: Exploring Race and Racism, working with youth practitioners across London. Using self-reflection and scenario-based discussion, the training explores how practitioners approach conversations on race and racism, and examines their impact on young people, practitioners and wider society.
